Super Column Monday 28th December Summer Learning Journey

Hi , Today I created a super column . I thought it was really cool how much some paper columns can hold. Overall I was able to hold about 6 things with my super column. Well actually I had 9 but I Nanogirl said to try a rock. It was quite heavy making so I could only hold about six on my super column. It was tricky to put the rock because it was so heavy and the whole thing would collapse. What I discovered was that if you put the items on two columns horizontally , vertically or diagonally. It create more support. Because it is balancing on the columns. So I put the heavier things like the rock. I ended up using 5 columns made out of paper sticked with tape to put my six items on. The items I used were , a rock , two phones , a pair of scissors , a glasses case with glasses in them , a paper flower. A helpful tip would be to put heavier things on columns. Here are some photos below.

Friday 25th December Fingertrap Summer Learning Journey

Hi and Merry Christmas to you all.Today I chose to make a paper cup using origami . It was actually a lot easier then I imagined it would be. A tip I would is to be very accurate because I ended messing up at the end because my bottom of the paper cup was not sealed and it ended up having a hole. I just improvised and put some tape at the bottom to stop the hole a little bit. If you would like to learn how to make a paper cup. Their is a link to a tutorial below.

23rd Wednesday December Summer Learning Journey About Maui defeating the sun

                                                                The Names Maui

The  Maui that moved the sun with the help of my brothers

I felt sorry for the villagers as they could not work as hard due to how little the day was. I had the courage and so did my brothers. I was happy with my decision. Preparing was a challenge but we plaited flax into rope to use. We arrived at the hole where the fierce sun rises up. Unknowingly the sun was caught in our trap. I sprung up onto to it and start smacking it with my weapon. The Sun says '' YOur gonna kill me!''. ''No'' I say. But I will send far away from this place. Off he went drifting as the atmosphere got a bit cooler. It was a struggle I was tired but was proud of what I did in the end.

Tuesday 22nd December Favourite Beach Summer Learning Journey

Hello , Today  I made a PigPen Cipher Clue to show my favourite beach. What I learnt was a different way to show right the alphabet in a different way. I really enjoyed learning about it. I did not find much challenging but I did have to have a bit of a think for my clue of my favourite beach. At the bottom is what each of the symbols represent.

Monday 21st December Xylophone Summer Learning Journey

Hi I have made a xylophone today. I discovered that it's not just glasses that make that noise steel cups can as well. So I have used those with the paper xylophone I made. The sound they make is really cool. Something tricky I found was measuring the different amounts of volume. I don't have any helpful tips but I just poured a little bit out and have a look if its better not then just pour some more out.

Summer Learning Journey : Kowhaiwhai Pattern Wednesday 16th December

Hi , The Kowhaiwhai I have made consists of a koru and a fishing hook. It just keeps going on after that. The koru means a new life or growth. The fishing is a symbol of good luck and strength. So basically what I am saying is the the fishing hook has hooked on to the koru giving it good luck and strength as it grows.

Summer Learning Journey: Insect Art Limey Spider Tuesday 15th December

The insect I have made is the Limey Spider. I have made this insect up by myself.  I came up with this name because I saw we have quite a lot of lime coloured stuff in our backyard and found these weird green balls growing from trees. I decided to use it for the abdomen and front bit of the spider. It has two fangs in the front and four legs attached to the abdomen. The sticks and fangs are little twigs. I made a hole in the ball for the eyes. I named it limey spider because its body is pretty much lime green colored. The spider is like that as well because it can mimicry into other green coloured spider colonies making it basically camouflage through colonies of other green coloured spider species.

Summer Learning Journey : Wrong Teeth Mate Tuesday 15th December

This Comic starts off with two fishing enthusiasts. It's been quite boring and dull because they have not found a fish. Until the one in the front on the screen  sneezes so hard that their dentures fall out. The other man starts cracking up but does feel sorry for his friend. Fortunately, they  finally find a fish and it's a massive 19 pound cod. The other man plays a joke by getting dentures and putting it in the cod and handing it to the man that lost his dentures. He gratefully takes the dentures but realises they are not his. The man plays it as if he feels bad but really he's just being sarcastic.

Summer Learning Journey Nanogirl Invention #11 Monday the 14th December

Today I made a dart shooter and a sword. I really enjoyed doing this because I am not a very crafty person and thought of both of them myself. As I was making them I  discovered different things  I can do to improve them . Like when I made the dart shooter I thought I could make it like its technology and drawed three buttons for three different types of darts. Poison , Sleep and Regular Darts. I used pens for the darts. The paper is a sort of armour I can use to block attacks. The paper with the coloured buttons was taped around my arm. Then I got pens that have a button thing on top to bring the pen tip out to write thing and put it under the paper . The button to put the pen tip inside is placed under the drawed buttons on the paper. The tip to put the pen tip out is not under the paper but is just barely visible on top of my wrist. When I hit the button on the paper the pen button under it gets hit and the pen button that brings the pen tip out comes out as if I have shot a dart. The sword is made out of cardboard taped together. Something tricky was that I realised when you hold the sword it feels uncomfortable. So I decided to tape some paper around it. It felt a lot better. Here are some photos.

Prep Reflection 4th December

  1. Do you feel your team has worked well together? How so?  Yes we have worked really well and have all done a really good job at contributing and planning our next steps. We have set up our stall for market day now and are ready for tonight's market day. We made a stand to put our price chart on and changed the 4 candles one to a large. That picture up their is our stand. We thought about displaying and made it look. The bottom two papers say which are small and large. The thing in the middle is the stand with a price chart.

  1. What have you done to get over difficulties or challenges? Well first knowing our plan. Because we were quite clueless at the start not knowing what to do. Now we do it independently and all of us know what to do.

  1. How has your teacher helped you to become business prepared for market day? Mr Dunn has taught to think about things like our displaying of the stand , how to make it look appealing and that we must have a plan before we do anything.

  1. List all the things you need to bring with you for market day next Friday. We have brought everything as we promised and have done a good job. Hopefully everyone sells some of their products!

Prep Plan 4th December Market Day

Today we our main plan is to get our packaging sorted and set up our stall for the market day tonight. We are going to make a stall in the woodwork room to put our price chart on. We have changed the the ones with 4 candles to the large section because it did not seem right.
