Kia Ora , Today we tested floating boats. It was a pretty fun activity. I made two boats, A regular one and a canoe. They were both able to float. But the canoe floated on a angle which did not seem right. I learnt that the regular boat floated better then the canoe because it had a flatter surface and was able to float straight up. The canoe floated on an angle because it surface was very thin and it was pointy. The regular boat was also able to hold more stones then than the canoe with 7 while the canoe could only hold about 3. I learnt the canoe would sink faster as well because it surface was so thin and it did not take long to get fully soaked. Overall it was fun doing this activity testing different type of seas vehicles. The challenging part for me was probably making the boat. It was a bit difficult and my boat was not made out of the right size. I also messed up making it uneven but it still did better than the canoe, Below is a slide.

Kia Ora Joe,
ReplyDeleteAwesome blogging you've been doing mate. Judging by your posts this sounds like a really cool and fun activity to do. You have made some awesome observations about the difference between the canoe and the boat. 7 stones, that is impressive. Did you try adding another one to make it 8 to see if it could hold?
The idea of creating boats using paper sounds like a challenge, I am glad you were able to create them.

Kia Ora Kiana,
ReplyDeleteTHanks for the feedback, I did try putting another stone but it sunk and could not float.
Kia Ora Joe, good to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteHaha that's okay i thought i might ask if you had added another stone just to see what would happen. I hope you enjoyed this activity.
