Anti Gravity Glass Monday 11th January Summer Learning Journey

 Kia Ora All,

Today We created the anti gravity glass. I have to say it was pretty interesting. I discovered how if you can put enough pressure onto the glass to seal it with the card. It the water won't leak out. I found that very fascinating and think it absolutely cool. I felt like it would fall as I let go of the card and it would all come but it didn't. I was surprised. Nothing was really challenging in my opinion. Helpful tips , I guess it would be when you press the card on the glass make sure to press until the bits hanging off bend a little. I think that helped me out. Below is a picture of the experiment going successfully right.

Good on you for doing this and posting an image. Did you work out why the water stayed in the glass and why the cardboard didn't fall off? Maybe you could watch Nano Girl's video again to find out why.

When I was watching Nano Girl's video I noticed that she filled her glass right to the top and I wondered if it worked with a partially filled glass. I see that your glass was not filled so you have answered my question.

    1. Kia Ora Cheryl,
I can see I have answered your question. I believe it stays attached to the glass because the air pressure on the outside becomes greater than the pressure inside the cup. This keeps the card on top without it falling. The card seals and then water does not leak out. Hopefully I answered your question and you understand.

  2. Kia Ora Joe,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey.

This is an awesome experiment and I have actually done it in school myself. I think you did an awesome job with this post introducing and explaining the activity and experiment, what you enjoyed about it and including an image of your successful anti gravity cup.

To step it up you could upload a screencastify showing how you set up and completed your experiment.

Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

  3. Kia Ora Zana,
Thanks for the feedback. This was indeed a really cool experiment. The explanation is cool too that the air pressure is greater on the outside the sealing the card so water does not leak out. I enjoyed it.
